Gatwick is busiest station in South East

Gatwick Airport station is the busiest in the South East according to the Office of Rail and Road which has just release estimates of station entries and exits for the period 1 April 2015 to 31 March 2016.

Surprise, surprise, Gatwick Airport station is busier than Brighton station, just pipping the South Coast station by 700,000 passengers.

While it will come as no surprise that London has the busiest stations in the UK – Waterloo handled the most passengers in 2015-16 – excluding London stations, Gatwick is the sixth busiest train station in the UK, behind Glasgow Central, Birmingham New Street, Leeds, Manchester Piccadilly, and Edinburgh.

Half-hourly Gatwick Express service this Sunday, 21 Feb

A half-hourly Gatwick Express service will operate on Sunday, 21 February, due to engineering works.

Trains will depart at the following times:

  • Victoria to Gatwick trains will depart at 00 and 30 minutes past each hour
  • Gatwick to Victoria trains will depart at 20 and 50 minutes past each hour.

No Gatwick Express from Christmas Eve to 4 January

Just a reminder that there will be no Gatwick Express services from 22:00 on Christmas Eve, 24 December, until 04:00 on Monday 4 January due to major engineering works on the rail network.

Gatwick Express is not the not the only rail operator affected by engineering works, Southern and Thameslink will also be affected.

Due to several line closures, no direct trains will operate between London and Gatwick from Christmas Eve until 4 January.
