Southern Rail conductors vote for strike action

A strike by Southern rail staff is looking more likely after a recent ballot.

The RMT strike ballot of Southern Rail conductors has resulted in more than 70% voting in favour of strike action.Staff are in dispute with employers over a number of issues, including:

  • Failure to deal with rostering issues raised by the union despite prolonged negotiations
  • Abuse of the Conductors Restructuring Agreement
  • Insufficient establishment levels to cover work

The RMT executive is to consider the ballots results and what action to take, however, RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: “RMT remains available for further talks and we hope that in light of this ballot result the company will now see sense”.
