Ancient woodland cut down to make way for Gatwick parking

A new airport parking company operating an ‘illegal’ car park has been accused of cutting down ancient woodland to make way for its car park, this is Sussex reports.

According to the paper, the car park, which is located in Compasses Wood, off Wallage Lane in Rowfant, has been operating since April of this year. Building contractor, Caldyne Ltd, has now applied for retrospective planning permission to use the land for Gatwick airport parking.

The planning application was discussed on Monday night at Worth Parish Council’s planing meeting on Monday. Parish Councillor Mike Livesey is reported as saying that: the development was one of the worst breaches of planning law he had seen.
