Tesco launches virtual grocery store trial at Gatwick

Tesco has come up with a novel idea to help holidaymakers, an interactive virtual grocery store at the airport.

For the next two weeks, Tesco will trial its virtual grocery store in the North Terminal at Gatwick Airport.

Around 80 products will be featured, including milk, bread, cheese, pasta, eggs, fruit and vegetables.

Passengers will be able to view the virtual store using interactive digital displays, scroll through moving screens on large virtual fridges, scan barcodes with their smartphones, add products to their online baskets then book a home delivery slot and checkout.

Customers need to register at Tesco.com and download the Tesco app from the App Store, Google Play or Android Market to scan products using their smartphone.

This is the first time a service of this kind has been offered to passengers.

There will be four interactive fridges in the virtual store pilot at six digital sites in Gatwick’s North Terminal departure lounge until 19 August 2012.
