Passenger numbers up at Gatwick

A record number of passengers passed through Gatwick Airport last month.

In what was a busy month due to a late Easter, the Royal Wedding and the May bank holiday, the airport handled 185,700 more passengers than May 2010 – up 6.8%.

Contributing to the numbers was a rise of 14.4% in passengers travelling to Ireland and a 13.9% rise in European scheduled flights – when compared with May 2010.

In a rolling 12-month period (June 2010 – May 2011) passenger traffic was up 2.4% when compared to June 2009 – May 2010).

  1. passenger numbers up can only be a good thing for all airports and airport business related customers. A 2.4% increase may seem small but it’s a result for any airport
