Passenger Numbers Down at Gatwick Airport

The recession has further hit the travel industry this week as Gatwick Airport announced that it saw a downturn in passenger numbers passing through the airport in September.

The UK’s second largest airport announced being down 2.6% in traffic last month compared to the same month last year, with Ireland alone seeing a shortfall of 10% in passenger traffic.

The only sector to see an increase in traffic was the long haul sector, excluding North America, citing an increase of 7.1%, with the Caribbean and Africa being the most popular destinations.

On a positive note, Gatwick announced it expects to see an increase in passenger numbers as BA commences services to Cancun in Mexico in November.
